Death by Fashion

Death by Fashion Indulge at the Atlantis Hotel.

10:30 at night I drive to the Jumeriah Palm, and navigate my way down to the Atlantis hotel, Where a fashion show was to be held at the Indulge Bar!  What an incrediable looking place. I arrived at 10:50. Dubai Traffic on a Friday night....
Took a few shots of the lounge area at Indulge, the ambient lighting is so colourful, a great venue for a  fun night out with friends.

This really is a lounge with a view, one wall opens up and there is a hidden room,  with bird cages for dancers and dance pillars. The feeling of it all was quite surreal, magical almost.

Ceilings are adorned with beautiful lighting, well of course it is the Atlantis Hotel.
The show was to start at 11:30, but as expected, it was more like 12:45 by the time the models walked onto the stage.
The dresses were fabulous, the head pieces bizarre, the makeup was very well done, very interesting combination, when all was put together, I found myself wondering were to look, how to take it all in. So picked up my Nikon and started shooting.

Death by Fashion was quite surprizing, I had expected something a little more Gothic, but the designs, were elegant, feminine, seductive and perfectly trimmed with laces and ribbons, furs and glitter.
The head peices were really quite a piece of art on their own!
Structurally interesting full of textures and shapes that were quite complementary to the models that were wearing them.

Podium dancing, was part of the show as well they also had a group of young men perform some of their  break dancing moves.

All in all is was a fun night, lots of people out dancing and enjoying the night at Indulge. Atlantis Hotel, Dubai, U.A.E.

Native Indian Inspired

Inspiration where do you find it?

Recently we took a family vacation and went to Bali, Indonesia.
It has been 19 years since I have been there, the last time was when Miranda was one year old.

The question that always comes up is where do you get your inspiration from, well most of the time I'm not quite sure, it could be as simple as a book I have read, a movie I have watched, or the models looks. sometimes it is an item I have found.
This shoot was inspired by a couple ideas.
Hannah my youngest daughter, has been very busy with her business Hannah's Hair feathers,
her and her cousin, Hilary spent last summer off to markets, putting in hair feathers for customers and designing feather earrings.
While we were on our vacation we found this head dress. Who would have thought that you would find this in Bali?
So this was the beginning of it all.
Sophie Leach the make up and hair artist, and I been going back and forth with ideas, and this is what we came up with.
These photos were taken up in a Jebel on the way to Hata border.
My lighting assistant, Bryson, a little tired at the beginning of the shoot,
but got into it once we were there.
We were on location about 4 o'clock, it was a little windy at our first stop, so we snuck around into the rocks and found it a little less stressful.

Here is a link to Hannahs Hair feathers, enjoy... always a pleasure.
